Sometimes there are no words to describe a situation. What is happening in India as they battle the surge in COVID-19 cases is heartbreaking and truly devastating. Our hearts go out to everyone in India and those who may not live in India but have family and friends in the country.
In times where there are no words, we rely on actions to show our love. With the support of Amway’s founding families, as well as executive leadership, Amway contributed $500,000 to a foundation led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that will deliver critical assistance and medical supplies to India including 1,000 ventilators and 25,000 oxygen concentrators. Additionally, the David & Carol Van Andel Family Foundation provided a generous gift of $250,000 to further these efforts.
Amway’s CEO, Milind Pant, who is also a vice chair on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-India Business Council Board of Directors said, “India is on the hearts and minds of Amway’s global family. To our colleagues and friends across India, know that we are committed to supporting you during these tough times. Thank you for your courage and determination throughout the pandemic. We will get through this together and emerge even stronger.”
Our Amway team in India has already done a lot to combat COVID-19 and provide relief to the many people, healthcare workers, and businesses impacted by the pandemic. Amway India launched the COVID-19 Relief Program and has contributed more than INR 2.50 Crores, USD $350,000, toward multiple COVID-19 relief initiatives. And the list of relief efforts grows each day:
- Amway India manufactured and donated 12,000 units of hand sanitizer to frontline workers in 47 COVID-19 designated hospitals across 16 cities in partnership with the Association of Surgeons in India.
- Employees at Amway India voluntarily donated a day’s salary to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Amway India responded by donating five times the amount received from employees.
- Amway India partnered with the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Center to help open their third Rural Telemedicine Center in Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu to ensure consistent healthcare support in the region.
