As Chief Executive Officer, Michael Nelson is responsible for driving Amway’s strategic vision and growth initiatives. He partners closely with the global employee base, management team and with Amway Business Owners (ABOs) to realize the company vision of Helping People Live Better, Healthier Lives.
Committed to Amway’s strategy of providing a robust business opportunity and driving global health and wellbeing, he is dedicated to strengthening the company’s position in this space by leveraging Amway’s unique strengths and foundational values.
Nelson reports directly to the Amway Board of Directors. He also serves on Amway’s Global Leadership Team, the executive decision-making body focused on shaping global strategy, strengthening company culture, and enhancing ABO and their customer experiences.
Nelson joined the company as an intern, while completing university studies, in 1989. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating & Chief Human Resources Officer. In this position, he led Amway Supply Chain, Legal, Government Affairs, Human Resources, Aviation, Amway Hotel Corporation, and the Founding Families Engagement organization.
In his three decades at Amway, he has held critical leadership positions in Strategy, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Technology, among many other disciplines across the company. He has worked closely with the Board of Directors and Founding Families since 2006 in various capacities.
Throughout this tenure, Nelson has recognized and valued the special partnership with Amway Business Owners. He has led strategies and programs that have strengthened the bond between ABOs, employees, and the Founding Families.
He also is a dedicated community and business leader – serving as a board member of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Economic Club of Grand Rapids, The Right Place and the West Michigan Regional Air Alliance. He also serves on the U.S. – China Business Council Board of Directors and The Salvation Army National Advisory Board.
Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in business and supply chain management from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from Aquinas College. He has been married to his wife for over 30 years and is blessed with six adult children.
