Ada, Michigan — The seed-to-supplement story has been a keystone of the Amway’s Nutrilite brand for over 80 years. The success of Amway business owners relies on the traceability and quality of ingredients grown at Rancho El Petacal, a certified organic Amway farm in Jalisco, Mexico.
Untouched by paved roads, the sprawling 1,589 acres (643 hectares) is located in the southwestern part of the country and produces crops such as spinach, kale, watercress, alfalfa, broccoli, parsley and even grapefruit and oranges.
The wide-array of produce provides many key ingredients to Amway’s Nutrilite products.
The farm hums with life as crews harvest much of the produce by hand and tractors carry it back to the on-site processing facility not far from the base of Petacal Mountain.
Supporting the surrounding community has been a key part of the farm’s mission since it was founded more than 25 years ago. It reflects Nutrilite founder Carl Rehnborg’s philosophy: “Take care of the land. Take care of the people.”
“El Petacal is taking on that responsibility,” general manager Gerardo Gordillo said. “We have eight or nine social programs we offer to support families and children from kindergarten to high school.”
Area children and mothers learn about nutrition and take classes in the health clinic and community center that were built on the farm.
“Just last year, we incorporated Nutrilite Little Bits supplement into our programming, ensuring malnourished children under age five are getting the nutrients needed to grow into healthy adults.”
